Once the children understood the concept, they played a fun rounding game together. This helped to reinforce what they learnt in a fun and engaging way. Well done P5!

  • Picasso

    Published 05/11/24

In an inspiring art session by Mrs McKenna, P5 explored the vibrant and abstract style of Pablo Picasso, channelling their creativity to create self-portraits that reflected their unique identities. Using a variety of materials—such as colored paper and paint—they experimented with bold colors and geometric shapes, much like Picasso did in his masterpieces.

Each child began by discussing what symbols represented them personally. This reflection process allowed them to connect more deeply with their art. As they crafted their portraits, they incorporated these personal symbols into their designs, adding meaning to their work.

The room was filled with laughter and excitement as they shared stories about their symbols and the artistic choices they made.

  • Our Body

    Published 05/11/24

Our new topic is all about our body and organs. We enjoyed doing some active learning outside. We took chalks out and drew around our bodies. We then tried to place our bones in the correct place and write in their scientific names. As you can see from the photos this was great fun. We continued our Picasso inspired art by creating skeletons with their organs placed inside. This really helped to consolidate all our learning about our skeleton and organs.

  • P5 Make a Blood Model

    Published 04/11/24

P5 have been learning all about themselves and wanted to know more about their blood. After some exciting experiments to see how fast blood is being pumped around their body they decided to have a go at making blood models to show all the different parts. After careful research they choose materials to represent each part. The cheerios represented red blood cells, the white marshmallows they felt looked like white blood cells, they had brown foam for platelets and yellow paint for plasma. They then recorded their findings. Such clever scientists in Primary 5!

  • Dash Coding

P5's Excellent coding skills were in top gear while learning how to Code using Dash (our coding Robots) through Blockly. The children learned the basics of programming using the drag and drop language of Blockly. They were taught the fundamental programming concepts through interactive exercises without the need to write out programming syntax. This is an intuitive way to code which will help build the skills they need to get started in programming ๐Ÿ’ป ๐Ÿค—

Block programming allowed the children to create scripts and programs by using visual blocks and also gave opportunities to debug programmes ๐Ÿฆ

Blockly includes everything you need for defining and rendering blocks in a drag-n-drop editor. Each block represents a chunk of code that can be easily stacked and translated into code.

The children really enjoyed coding Dash to respond to their clap and tell them a 'Knock Knock' joke ๐Ÿ˜†

    Amazing work P5 ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป
