  • The best way to learn is to bake!

    Published 29/11/22

Our writing focus for this term has been instructional writing. We have learned about imperative verbs and why they are necessary, particularly in pieces of instructional writing, e.g. recipes, instruction booklet, manuals etc.

We needed to put theory into practice, therefore we made top hats and wrote a piece of instructional writing to reflect the method we used.

Fortunately, our methodology was perfect and the top hats were even better!

As a keen historian, Conor has been extremely enthusiastic about our World Around Us topic, 'The Vikings'. Conor decided he would love to impart his very impressive knowledge about the Vikings onto his classmates by creating a wonderful presentation filled with facts and quiz questions.

As a class we thoroughly enjoyed Conor's presentation and were very proud of the standard of work he produced!

  • P6 Trip to Ballydugan Medieval Village

    Published 09/11/22

To conclude their study of The Vikings, Primary 6 children enjoyed a brilliant day at Ballydugan Medieval Settlement yesterday.

The children were brought to the Longhouse, where the Jarl greeted them and talked about Viking life.

The children then rotated around a number of hands on activities and demonstrations related to Viking life.

To conclude the trip, they witnessed a performance of fight techniques and battles skills, demonstrated by the warriors before partaking in a Viking battle drill, taking on the real Vikings in a shield wall battle formation.

  • Digital Art inspired by David Hockney and Pablo Picasso

    Published 30/09/22

The children learned about their perception of self and how we all see ourselves in different ways.

David Hockney's 'Joiner Photography' aimed to give his work a dynamic that is not always present in a single photograph. We studied intricate photo collages and how they encapsulate a range of expressions over time, yet are seen together in one image. We then learned about how Pablo Picasso depicted expression and emotion in his work with the use of colour line.

Inspired by the work of Hockney and Picasso, we created our own 'joiner' portraits before digitising them to reflect the work of Picasso.

The children's responses to this project were wonderful, drawing carefully upon the elements of both artists.

  • Recreating Roald Dahl book covers

    Published 28/09/22

Improving our ICT skills is just one goal that we have in P6SS this year. We have been introduced to Abobe Express and we loved using to modernise and recreate digital book covers for some of our favourite Roald Dahl books. The children produced incredible master pieces. I think we may have many digital content creators of the future in our class.
